Day 337: Lincoln

I hesitated to draw this after I watched the movie, Lincoln, over a week ago since he was such an iconic and one of the most respected and beloved presidents of the United States. But after I watched the interview with Steven Spielberg, Daniel Day-Lewis and Sally Field I decided to do it. I would love to have his image on my sketchbook. Everyone basically admitted that they approached this movie with fear but that feeling pushed them to do the best they can.

Great movie with a great message. I have just ordered Team of Rivals which 5 pages of this book the movie is based on.

Day 314: Commute by Kayak

This is from ABC News 20/20 tonight. Mr. Schwitzski has been commuting by a 15-foot-long kayak to/from Hoboken, NJ and Manhattan for about a year. I am a little jealous! (Just a little. :P)

Day 228: Let's talk about my neighbor

Some of you probably wonder what on earth I was drawing yesterday. The reason is that our greatest business manager of 19 years is leaving the company. Her last day will be next Thursday.

So let's start talking about her! She doesn't like a surprise so let's prep her a bit, shall we ? :D

Since we moved to the new office my manager has become my office neighbor. We have only a tall low wall separate us. So you know there can be a lot going on.

Day 206: Inspired by "Le Moribond"

I just feel inspired by the color, the tone and texture of the photo "Le Moribond" by indiae. I actually enjoy painting the skin part quite a lot.

Day 203: A Lady in Red

I found an old pencil sketch I did a while ago. So I just painted this up. I would love to be able to paint a portrait one day...not the realism style though. I prefer a sketchy style when it comes to portrait. It just leaves some more room to think about while looking at it. I always go back to Alex Powers' Painting People in Watercolor to get inspired.

Day 141: "Me without You" - A very cute book to have

After I went through the art festival yesterday I stopped by Paper Source, a lovely store where you can find cards, gift wraps, books, stationery, etc. I love their "Do something creative everyday" motto. I came across a book misplaced on their display called "Me without You" by Lisa Swerling and Ralph Lazar, a very cute book to have as a reminder or buy as a gift when you want to tell someone how much they mean to you. Each page has a different rhyme ending with u sound along with adorable illustration. You can take a peek on a preview on Amazon.

Anyway, I love this book so much that I (bought it) and decided to create a rhyme in Thai as you can see here. I also wrote English translation in small red fonts so my English-speaking friends don't think I am swearing online.

Check it out. Sometimes our everyday life is so complicated that we need something so simple like this.

Day 126: Face Painting

I volunteered face painting at Spring Festival in Reston today. Just want to see what it was like. Here were the samples I made for kids to choose from per staff advice. And wow, kids loved face painting. Spiderman and Butterfly were most popular.


In case you are curious the face painting samples were just made from a color paper, then I colored them with markers and color pencil, and I taped a popsicle stick onto the back of the paper face. This way kids can hold it for me or just looking at it while I am painting their face. :)


There were two kids brought their own images, Toothless (the dragon), oh and her brother wanted a yellow and green tractor on his cheek and then another kid wanted some sort of round weapon, which I had no idea what it was called, on his whole face. But I was up for challenge! There were only 2 face painters per shift and the line got really long. I didn't even have a chance to take a break during my 2-hour shift.

Day 91: Kite Festival

We're at the kite festival today in DC. There were penguins, dragons, pirates, planes, spacecrafts, Buzz Lightyear, birds, angry birds, octopus, whale up in the air today. Washington Monument ground was colorful. I'll try to post photos soon.

Day 90: After Hours

This is how architects & designers use their resource library after work. Playing Rock Band. Well....probably once every 2 years. (^_^) I am horrible at playing drums!

Day 88: My First Pair of Flippers

I've been wanting to draw my first pair of flippers since I received them. Now I can't wait to try! :)

Last weekend my classmate in her 50-60s who swam so well in class told me that she had never known how to swim until 3 years ago. One day she had decided to learn properly. Isn't that such a great inspiration ? I learnt how to swim when I was 6 or 7 years old. skipping it for decades as I had never enjoyed it. Now I start lap swimming. Maybe I will be better in a couple years too!
